Creative Schools
We are thrilled that our school has been accepted into the highly-sought after “Creative Schools Programme”. Creative Schools is a flagship initiative of the Creative Ireland Programme to enable the creative potential of every child. Creative Schools is led by the Arts Council in partnership with the Department of Education and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.
The Creative Schools initiative supports schools to put the arts and creativity at the heart of children’s and young people’s lives. This initiative provides opportunities for children to build their artistic and creative skills; to communicate, collaborate, stimulate their imaginations, be inventive, and to harness their curiosity. It is well recognised that engagement in the arts can nurture a child’s sense of confidence and well-being. Creative activity also enables communication and collaboration, stimulates imaginations and harnesses curiosity; all necessary skills required for successful learning.
Each school is supported by a Creative Associate who helps to develops an individual school plan, and creates and strengthens links between the school and arts & cultural organisations. We are very fortunate to be working with the creative associate JoJo Hynes who is a visual, collaborative artist, performer and arts educator.
We have kickstarted our two-year programme by electing our Creative Committee and were bowled over by the level of creativity & talent on display by our students right across the school as the entries to be part of this committee were submitted. We look forward to engaging with many creative artists and exploring so much more of our creative talents in the months ahead! Many thanks to Ms. Walsh and the Creative Committee for all of their ongoing hard work.
