BLAST is a Department of Education initiative of the Creative Youth Plan 2023-2027 which aims to foster creativity in schools and to provide children with opportunities to learn and develop key skills and competencies of collaboration, critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation. In the first year of the Blast programme, we created a beautiful clay mural with our resident artist Norah Brennan which displayed images of our school life such as a hurl, football, a sliotar, musical instruments, art symbols, books and pencils. In the second year of the Blast programme, we created puppets and learned how to put on a puppet show with our resident artist Carmel Balfe. The children created a range of different puppets and use them throughout lessons in their classrooms.
