Chess Club

The Chess Club was established in our school by Mrs Biesty in October 2022 and has been going from strength to strength ever since with new members joining all the time.  We recently invested in an extra 10 chess boards to accommodate our growing numbers!  Chess Club meets at lunchtime twice a week and is a great opportunity to spend time practicing a new skill and to make new friends.

We were delighted to attend "Feile Fichell" in Knockmore Resource Centre on Friday,February 9th.  This year we had three teams in attendance, a total of 24 children from 3rd Class to 6th! It was a wonderful day, playing chess and meeting with children from 10 other schools in the East Mayo area. 

Following on from a superb performance from all our chess players in Knockmore, our senior team "Chessmates" was invited to play in a "Comortas Ficheall", which took place in Tuam on April 9th.  This competition saw our chess team playing against schools from all across Galway and Mayo and is a huge testament to the high standard our students are playing chess at.  We look forward to developing our chess players and skills throughout the year.
